Derek McInnes insists Rangers are proper to contest the four-match touchline ban he has obtained for describing as “disgusting” the choice to award Celtic a late penalty at Motherwell in Might.

The feedback, made on the finish of final season when McInnes was answerable for Hearts, associated to a stoppage-time spot-kick for handball that was transformed by Kelechi Iheanacho.

Celtic’s 3-2 victory at Fir Park on 13 Might saved them one level behind Hearts, who they beat to the title just a few days later in a final-day decider.

Responding to the Scottish FA penalty, which is an instantaneous three-game ban with one suspended till the top of the season, Rangers say the remarks have been “directed on the resolution, fairly than representing any broader criticism of officers”.

And, following a pleasant victory over over St Etienne at Ibrox, McInnes added: “I do not agree with it and the membership do not agree with it. I am glad that we will attraction in opposition to that.

“I have been a supervisor for 19 years and you realize you are going to be requested about contentious choices and all the remainder of it.

“I’ve by no means needed to make it private. For me, the choice was fallacious. I really feel as if I made my factors on the listening to.

“Broadcasters pay some huge cash to listen to managers’ reactions. We have to watch out that we do not have managers and gamers who need to be actually certain of themselves and test themselves earlier than answering a query.

“At no level was I desirous to inflame a state of affairs.

“The state of affairs was already being mentioned earlier than I did my press. It was fairly an enormous second within the season and there was a whole lot of emotion, however I felt as if what I stated was managed.”

Chatting with Sky Sports activities after a win in opposition to Falkirk at Tynecastle on the identical night time as Celtic’s win at Fir Park, McInnes stated: “While you heard Celtic received a 96th-minute penalty that was going to VAR and so they have been checking it, you simply assume what’s occurred is that they get the penalty.

“Having seen it once more, it is disgusting. It’s. I do not assume it is a penalty kick.

“However we’re up in opposition to it. We’re up in opposition to everyone.”

If the ban is upheld, McInnes can be within the stands as Rangers open the Scottish Premiership away to Dundee United on 31 July, the next league sport at dwelling to Hibernian and for a League Cup tie on the weekend of 15/16 August.

Rangers add that McInnes’s “issues have been extensively shared by different commentators throughout the UK” and say “related language has beforehand been utilized in Scottish soccer by others with lesser disciplinary motion or with none motion in any respect.”
