Whereas Malan’s departure a day after a historic win might have come as a shock, Wilson stated that internally “the succession plan has been there for a time period”.
Since he retired in 2020, the 40-year-old moved into teaching and was assistant below Malan – one thing Wilson stated he’s “grateful for” because it helped him be ready to take over with their “unbelievably good working relationship”.
“I made no secret to Cricket Eire that I used to be bold and that is the job I needed,” Wilson stated.
“Clearly, I will have my very own concepts and the best way I need to go about issues, and little doubt over a time period relationships with the fellows will change.
“Being an assistant coach with the fellows may be very, very completely different to being the top coach, however on the forefront for me is relationships and communication.”
Wilson must make some tough selections, and he desires honesty to be on the coronary heart of every little thing.
“I do know the panorama of cricket in Eire. I am not coming in blind by way of the services we have, by way of what participant pool we have, contracts, cash and all that.
“I am properly versed in that and I wish to suppose that I am a well-rounded selection, hopefully.”
