Mika Stojsavljevic turned the primary Briton in 15 years to win the US Open women’ title as she beat Wakana Sonobe in New York.
The 15-year-old cruised to a 6-4 6-4 victory over Japan’s Sonobe.
It’s a first Grand Slam title for the junior, along with her earlier greatest run coming in 2023 when she reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
She is the primary British lady since Heather Watson in 2009 to win the title at Flushing Meadows.
“I am tremendous joyful and tremendous grateful,” Stojsavljevic mentioned.
“Thanks to my household for supporting me again house and thanks to the group right here, you have been nice.”
Stojsavljevic noticed off third seed American Iva Jovic, who made it to the second spherical of the principle ladies’s draw, in Friday’s semi-final.
She started enjoying tennis across the age of 5 at Ealing Garden Tennis Membership and cites five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova as her tennis idol.
In April, Stojsavljevic beat two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist Tamira Paszek on her strategy to profitable the W35 Nottingham ITF singles title.
