RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Brian Kivlan’s accomplishments have been many. Born within the Riverdale part of the Bronx to Bernard and Mary Rose Kivlan, Brian was a graduate of Manhattan School. He was a medaled observe and subject athlete and the primary New Yorker to run a sub-4-minute mile—an unimaginable achievement.
An All-American athlete and nationally ranked within the 1500 and the mile; Brian was a semi-finalist in the US Olympic Trials in 1968. Fairly merely, he embraced athleticism in the course of his lifetime.
Brian went on to show at Trinity Faculty on the Higher West Facet of Manhattan for 42 years, the place he was a bodily schooling trainer and coach. Lovingly referred to easily as Coach “Kiv,” Brian instilled in his college students a love of athletics and a dedication to excellence.
Later in life, Brian might most frequently be discovered using his bike via Central Park, taking bike excursions of Italy, and using via the villages of Mallorca, Spain.
Outdoors of his athleticism, nothing introduced Brian extra pleasure than connecting with family and friends and watching the US Ladies’s Nationwide Soccer Crew matches. Time spent together with his granddaughter Ava Rose was most valuable to him, as he took her to numerous parks in New York Metropolis, lengthy walks on the Higher West Facet, which he known as dwelling, and easily watching her play. She was the sunshine of his life.
Brian is survived by his daughter Kerri, son-in-law Patrick McGlone, granddaughter Ava Rose, brothers Eugene (Maureen Kivlan), and Andrew. He was a beloved uncle, cousin, grand uncle, buddy, coach, mentor, and trainer to numerous others.
Wake shall be held on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Residence, 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, N.Y. Funeral Mass 10 am Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at St Paul the Apostle Church: 602 McLean Avenue, Yonkers N.Y. 10705. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
