
Madrid Open organisers have apologised to gamers and followers for the “unacceptable resolution” to not permit the ladies’s doubles finalists to make presentation speeches.
Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia beat People Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff 6-1 6-4 on Sunday.
All finalists within the singles and the boys’s doubles addressed the gang after their matches.
Organisers say they’ve apologised on to the 4 gamers concerned.
Event chief government Gerard Tsobanian mentioned: “We sincerely apologise to all of the gamers and followers who anticipate extra of the Mutua Madrid Open event.
“Not giving our girls’s doubles finalists the possibility to handle their followers on the finish of the match was unacceptable and we’ve apologised on to Victoria, Beatriz, Coco and Jessica.
“We’re working internally and with the WTA (Girls’s Tennis Affiliation) to assessment our protocols and are dedicated to bettering our course of transferring ahead. We made a mistake and this is not going to ever occur once more.”
Organisers had initially mentioned they might “not touch upon the matter” when contacted by BBC Sport earlier this week.
Pegula mentioned the choice was “disappointing” and questioned “what century everybody was residing in”, whereas Belarus’ Azarenka referred to as the state of affairs “unacceptable”.
