World quantity 13 Norrie gained 6-2 6-3 on the Foro Italico in Rome.
Norrie, 27, will play Australia’s Alex de Minaur or Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics within the third spherical on Sunday.
Within the ladies’s draw, two-time defending champion and world primary Iga Swiatek thrashed Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0 6-0.
Poland’s Swiatek, champion in Rome in 2021 and 2022, will face American twenty eighth seed Bernarda Pera or Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko within the third spherical.

Prize pot elevated for French Open
The prize pot for this 12 months’s French Open has elevated by 12.3% from 2022 to 49.6 million euros (£43.1m), organisers of the Grand Slam introduced on Friday.
