A pig’s head was thrown on to the pitch throughout a recreation between Sao Paulo rivals Corinthians and Palmeiras within the Brazilian championship.
The incident occurred as Palmeiras ready to take a nook within the first half and Corinthians ahead Yuri Alberto ran from the penalty field to kick it off the pitch earlier than play continued.
Alberto went on to attain as Corinthians gained the sport 2-0.
“I nearly broke my foot, I believed it was a cushion, I went to take it off with my foot, I sort of kicked it. It was a pig’s head, I nearly damage my foot,” Alberto told O Globo’s SporTV., external
“A brand new one on me – the large conventional Sao Paulo derby, Corinthians v Palmeiras and somebody has thrown a pig’s head on the the sphere (the image of Palmeiras is a pig),” South American soccer correspondent Tim Vickery posted on X.
The state of affairs was harking back to when Barcelona fans threw a pig’s head on to the pitch when their former midfielder Luis Figo returned to the Nou Camp enjoying for arch-rivals Actual Madrid in 2002.
Globo and ESPN Brazil, external reported that police are investigating and two followers had been arrested following the incident, earlier than being launched.
Palmeiras followers adopted the pig as their mascot in 1986.
