Belgian Grand Prix: Red Bull revert to conventional rear wing after Max Verstappen crashes

Crimson Bull are reverting to a traditional rear wing for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix following high-speed crashes for Max Verstappen within the earlier two races.

The transfer has been confirmed to BBC Sport by Crimson Bull group principal Laurent Mekies, who stated the group had found an issue with their earlier wing in exams for the reason that race at Silverstone.

Crimson Bull are reverting to a wing that opens for straight-line mode in commonplace style, Mekies stated.

Verstappen stated at Spa on Thursday: “It is fairly apparent why. We are going to return on the previous one and see at any time when the brand new one is prepared once more for use by us.”

Crimson Bull and Ferrari have this 12 months pioneered a brand new design the place the rear wing opens into straight-line mode by the highest flap rotating greater than 180 levels.

This provides an even bigger opening, better drag discount and subsequently elevated straight-line velocity.

Nonetheless, Verstappen’s crashes – one through the British Grand Prix and one in qualifying in Austria – had been associated to the best way the wing closed on entry to 2 high-speed corners.
