The Soccer Affiliation has charged Cardiff Metropolis after the membership’s followers allegedly aimed homophobic chants at Chelsea.
Premier League aspect Chelsea beat League One leaders Cardiff 3-1 in an EFL Cup quarter-final at Cardiff Metropolis Stadium on 16 December.
The FA stated: “The membership allegedly failed to make sure that its spectators and/or supporters (and anybody purporting to be supporters) do not use phrases or behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent or insulting approach together with a reference – whether or not categorical or implied – to sexual orientation across the second minute.”
The FA added that Cardiff have till Tuesday 24 February to offer a response.
In an announcement, Cardiff stated: “Cardiff Metropolis Soccer Membership has responded to an FA cost in relation to homophobic chanting by a minority of people throughout our Carabao Cup fixture with Chelsea.
“As an inclusive membership that positions itself on the coronary heart of our group, we strongly condemn the language of recognized people and totally assist South Wales Police’s dedication to holding individuals accountable.
“The behaviour of the perpetrators was swiftly recognised throughout the fixture in query. Inside communication led to police being deployed instantly to the part throughout the match.
“The membership is dedicated to inclusivity and the safety of all supporters attending our fixtures. Strong and coherent measures had been put in place earlier than, throughout and after this fixture and this has been highlighted in our response to the Soccer Affiliation.
