McLaren staff principal Andrea Stella believes Formulation 1’s present driver crop is healthier than ever, as his drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri battle for the world title.
No fewer than 10 present drivers – half the sphere – are grand prix winners, with 10 polesitters and a whopping 15 podium finishers. That’s everybody however Yuki Tsunoda and rookies Oliver Bearman, Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto.
Final weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix was one other signal of how aggressive F1 has change into, with all 10 vehicles (representing seven completely different groups) inside 0.528s in Q3 on an admittedly quick Interlagos monitor. An virtually equivalent hole separated the highest 14 drivers in Q1 and in Q2.
“I feel what we see on this season in Formulation 1, by way of competitiveness – and that is one thing that you could be decide for a little bit bit of study – I do not recall that there was such a aggressive pool of drivers in another season,” Stella mentioned.

The battle for the title primarily entails the McLaren drivers, with European F3 champion and F2 runner-up Norris going through back-to-back Formulation Renault Eurocup, F3 and F2 champion Piastri.
Nevertheless, Stella believes seven or eight drivers are gifted sufficient to win the world championship – which, in keeping with him, is testomony to the standard of F1’s feeder sequence.
“The brand new technology of drivers, they’re simply so good, and now you might have seven, eight drivers that are at world championship stage. Like I say, I am unsure this has occurred earlier than,” the Italian added.
“Doubtlessly that is due to how good the junior classes now are. These guys, they go karting and so they have the info. They practice at a sure stage when they’re adolescents. This has made the aggressive area extraordinarily, extraordinarily tight, and subsequently the distinction is on this final one p.c.”
